The St. Martin's PTO is responsible for a variety of different events and programs throughout the year, each of which depends on parent volunteers to be successful. A description of the PTO's events and programs follows below.

There is a committee dedicated to each of the PTO's events and programs, and we need parent volunteers to serve as committee chairs. If you are interested in chairing a PTO committee chair, click here to complete the PTO's Willingness to Serve Form. Visit the PTO Volunteer Opportunities page if, rather than chairing a committee, you are interested in volunteering to help with an event or program. Please contact the PTO Co-Presidents with any questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for your interest and support.

PTO Programs & Events

List of 25 items.

  • Book Fair - Fall & Spring

The PTO hosts two book fairs each year – one in the fall, and one in the spring. Students of all ages enjoy shopping the book fairs. They aren’t the only ones who get to shop, though! The book fairs are open to everyone in the SMES community, including teachers, staff, parents, and even grandparents. Parent volunteers help set up and clean up; they also help with purchases during the book fair.
  • Celebration of the Arts

The PTO decorates the SMES hallways with student art before parent/teacher conferences at the beginning of the 2nd semester.
  • Cookies & Carols

This festive event gives students a chance to celebrate Christmas together while enjoying special Christmas cookies, caroling, and a visit from Santa. Parent volunteers bake cookies or pass out treats on this special day.
  • Dads' Events

A few times a year, dads get together to socialize and support SMES. Parent volunteers help plan and sometimes host these fun get-togethers.
  • Decorations (Fall & Christmas)

The PTO helps make the school festive and fun with special decorations for fall and for Christmas. Parent volunteers put up and take down decorations.
  • Fall Festival

Fall Festival is one of our favorite SMES traditions. Typically held on a Saturday in October, Fall Festival has something for everyone. Rides, games, food trucks, a cake walk, a bake sale, and yummy festival favorites (think candy apples, popcorn, funnel cakes, and more) make Fall Festival fun for the whole family. Parent volunteers make this event a success. They help set up and break down the festival; sell tickets, food, & beverages; take pictures; and help with the bake sale.
  • Father/Daughter Dance

Our SMES daughters enjoy a night of dancing and fun with their dads and their friends at SMES. Parents can volunteer to help set up, help attendees check in, take photos, and more.
  • Field Days (EC, ES)

Each division has its own Field Day in the Spring. Parent volunteers help set up; they also help teachers & students during the day.
  • Fling Gala/Winter Social

For over 30 years, the Fling and Winter Social have been the PTO’s biggest fundraisers. Funds raised during these events have helped students and teachers grow stronger with new gym & playground equipment; explore the world with Google Expedition goggles; travel in style in an SMES-branded bus; and much more. The Fling is a black-tie gala held at a local venue. Winter Social is a more casual, themed party held at SMES. The two events alternate years, and both are fun nights out for parents, faculty, & teachers alike. Parent volunteers make these events a success and are needed at every stage.
  • Hospitality

This committee provides meals to our staff throughout the year – during pre-planning, Back to School Nights, conference days, and at the end of the year. Volunteers help plan and set up these much-appreciated meals.
  • Mother/Son Event

Every year, the PTO offers a different opportunity for SMES moms spend some quality time with their sons. Whether watching an Atlanta United game, competing in “Warrior” games, or playing BINGO, everyone always has a great time. Parent volunteers help plan and host this popular event.
  • MS Graduation

Volunteers help coordinate the graduation celebrations for our 8th graders and assist with the event at the end of the year.
  • New Family Coordinators (EC, ES, & MS)

New Family Coordinators help match new families with current families as SMES Warrior Buddies. They also assist Admissions with New Family Events and plan the New Family Parties prior to the start of school.
  • Orientation

This committee works closely with the school to set up and organize for Orientation Day prior to the start of school.
  • Parent Social

Volunteers help plan, set up, and host this fun annual social event for parents. The Parent Social usually takes place in the fall and is held off-campus.
  • Recycled Book Sale

The committee chairs and their volunteers plan, organize, and facilitate a recycled book sale at the end of the year, which gives parents a chance to sell old textbooks and purchase gently used ones for the upcoming year at a great price.
  • Recycled Uniform Sales

At various times throughout the year, the PTO hosts recycled uniform sales where parents can purchase gently used uniforms at an incredible discount. Several uniform “collections” are also scheduled throughout the year. Volunteers help sort and store collected uniforms; they also help set up, run, and break down uniform sales.
  • Room Representatives

The PTO's Room Representative Program provides an invaluable resource to both teachers and parents. Room Representatives help facilitate communication between teachers and parents. They also help teachers coordinate in-class parent volunteer opportunities and other classroom activities. This most-popular PTO role needs conscientious volunteers to send weekly class emails, schedule in-class parent volunteers, and help teachers with other classroom requests.
  • School Lost & Found

Several times throughout the year, the PTO cleans out the school’s lost & found bins. Items are distributed or organized as appropriate. Volunteers help with every stage of the process:  cleaning out, distributing labeled items, and organizing unclaimed items.
  • School Store

The SMES school store sells spirit items and other merchandise during morning carpool and other events. Volunteers help select & acquire inventory; they also help with the sale and distribution of items.
  • Spirit Events & Community Rebates

The PTO organizes several Spirit Nights (usually at local restaurants) and other Spirit Events throughout the year. Usually, a portion of the sales at these events is donated back to the PTO. The SMES PTO also participates in retail rebate programs such as Box Tops 4 Education, Amazon Smile, and Publix cards to raise funds for the school. Click here for details. Volunteers may be needed to help promote, schedule, and/or organize these events and programs.
  • Teacher & Staff Appreciation

The PTO organizes a variety of events during the year to show our SMES faculty and staff how much we love and appreciate them. Volunteers are needed to help at every stage of the process.
  • Veterans Day Assembly

This annual event honors SMES-affiliated and other U.S. veterans during a special celebration. Volunteers help decorate and coordinate.
  • Warrior 5K & Fun Run

The PTO has partnered with ORION Racing to expand the annual school community 5K and Fun Run to include runners and families from the Brookhaven and Greater-Atlanta Community. The event typically includes a post-race celebration with music, food and drinks, and an award ceremony. Volunteers help with set up/take down, registration, water stations, and managing traffic.
  • Warrior Wings

The PTO’s Warrior Wings is designed to offer support to members of our SMES family during a time of need. Whether celebrating the birth of a new baby or mourning the loss of a loved one, Warrior Wings is there to help by providing a home-cooked meal. Volunteers are needed to make the meals; volunteers are also needed to deliver them.
