Spelling Bee Winners

Congratulations to Middle School Spelling Bee first place winner Adelaide Hanna (6th grade) and runner-up Avalana Brock (7th grade). The two competed for several rounds before Adelaide spelled the winning word “status quo.”
The 24 Spelling Bee contestants represented the winner and runner-up from each Middle School English classroom competition. The participants included 6th graders Judson Divenere, Jack Gessner, Jamie Hanley, Adelaide Hanna, Amanda Houston, Amelia Marsh, Eva McLaren, and Drew Park; 7th graders Nathan Altiery, Avalana Brock, Charlie Duerr, Brayden Ebert, Sophia Henry, Luna Ochoa, Antonio Shaffer, and Ellora Yadav; and 8th graders Gracie Crofton, Tanner Grady, Simon Guterman, Sophia Karampelas, Bryant Lisenby, Carson Lott, Jack O’Donnell, and Truman Thompson.

Parents, faculty and St. Martin’s 3rd - 8th graders held their breath as the contestants spelled - and occasionally misspelled - tricky words for more than an hour. Middle School Principal Tony Shaffer served as moderator and Middle School English teachers Christine McAleer and Michele Davis were judges.
